INDD 302 Design Studio VI

Handling complex product design processes with issues of environmental factors and sustainability. Scenario-based and experience based discussions on human and environment relations with all aspects. Applications concerning local/regional values, social innovation, design thinking, and service design. Using participant techniques, prototype tests, group works. Problem based, user-centered and design thinking focused projects.

 

INDD 304 Portfolio Design 

The arrangement of the student graduation portfolio in terms of content and graphic design. Basics of graphic design. The importance of a portfolio in job interviews. Digital and printed portfolio formats. Portfolio in social media. Creating a designer ID. Oral and written presentation techniques. Logo design, and page layout. Different portfolio formats: Photography, illustration, etc

 

INDD 306 Material and Technology IV 

Getting familiar with current production techniques. Product development and manufacturing with open source production, personalization, 3D printing, basic coding and programming. Getting involved with open source and open design networks. Experiencing the relationship between digital production and design. 

 

INDD 308 Marketing and Management in Design 

To recognize the basic concepts of different market structures and marketing. Evaluation of product design in terms of forces operating in the market. Solutions and strategies that enable products to survive in the market. Market research. Understanding and developing product design in terms of marketing dynamics and strategic thinking. Introduction to design management.

 

INDD 401 Design Studio VII 

Production and market oriented professional projects in the design sector in Turkey with industry connections. Conducting projects communicating with SMEs, incubation centers, entrepreneurial ecosystems. Issues of market research and design management. Studying on project skills of entrepreneurship, innovativeness and critical thinking

 

INDD 402 Diploma Project 

Examining all outcomes of industrial design education within one project. Achieving the ability of combining interdisciplinary information with technical issues, in a process in which the student him/herself arranges time-planning, research process and relationships with other partners proper to project brief. The level of developing and presenting a finalized industrial design project individually with all problem definition and solving processes

 

IND 403 Sustainability in Product Design 

Understanding the concept of “sustainable design” based on meeting human needs without harming the ecosystem to take environmental sensitivity into consideration in product design. The effects of a product on the environment will be explored in this course, where many concepts such as design for environment, environment-friendly design, life cycle design, environmentally sensitive design and biomimicry are examined; issues such as emission of harmful chemicals, non-renewable energy consumption and excess energy consumption will be discussed. The course is based on the examination of these criteria through theoretical discussions and examples.

 

INDD 404 Profession and Practice 

General information about the actors and functions of the design industry. People and organizations involved in product development projects; relationships with other sectors; employment power; organization models, business structure and financing/production problems in enterprises and design bureaus. Related legal texts. Introduction to intellectual property rights. The course will be taught through invited speakers and seminars.
